The Cotton Fabric and Its Multiple Applications

Cotton is a versatile fabric. It offers many flexible uses. From upholstery, apparels, bags canvass shoes and hats to table cover, mats, rugs, curtains, cushion covers and many more, its uses are aplenty. The cotton fabric is available in many types according to its weave, weight and measurement. It is used as such or blended with other materials to give it some unique properties. One such type of cotton fabric is the army duck canvas fabric. Also known as duck cloth or canvas fabric, it exhibits many special qualities.

It is an inexpensive fabric and low maintenance. Its single weave pattern allows the air and moisture to pass through it. This makes clothes made of this fabric a popular choice to be worn in the summer and monsoon season.

The cotton duck is a natural fabric. This makes it a good absorbent. It may break, stretch or weaken when wet. Its versatility makes it easy to sew and dye. But on the contrary, it can be comfortably machine washed and dried.

When treated with chemicals, the cotton fabric acquires many new properties. It can be made water repellant, mildew resistant, flame retardant and extremely durable. These features make it perfect to be used for making products for industrial, commercial, apparel, home décor, healthcare, engineering and consumer goods. The example of these products is aprons, teepees, tents, hammocks, surgical gowns, masks, caps, gloves, shower curtains, table covers and mats, tarps and wipes etc.

The duck fabric is prone to wear and tear if overloaded or treated roughly. It is also prone to staining. Other than these, this fabric is lightweight, vibrant and finds its application in a wide variety of products.
