“Canvas” is a common term which the most of the people are aware of nowadays, especially for those who have ever gone out for outing somewhere on a beach or in hilly areas and there they might use a tent. In earlier times, there were not many choices in the outdoor fabrics. But because of the advancement in time, now there are many factors that one has to consider before buying a canvas for a tent such as location and weather information etc. Hence, there are many choices in an outdoor fabric.

What actually Canvas Fabric is?

Canvas can be made up of heavy woven cotton and other natural fiber fabric. It’s often known as “Duck” not because it is water resistant but it has derived its name from a Dutch word “doek”. Canvas can be used in making tarps, backpacks, tents etc.

What do you mean by Army Duck?
Army duck is also known as “shelter duck” as it is well suited for a wall tent. The tents used to very heavy in conventional days, which sometimes required many people to set up. Hence, there was a need to have a lighter fabric which possesses all the qualities and can be durable as well. An army duck canvas fabric is a good example of it which used in army specifications.

According to the manufacturers, heavier canvas fabric does not mean that it would be good in quality as it all depends on its durability, anti-mildew, water or chemical and heat or fire resistant ability.
